Say Hi to Tammie
Educator Tammie Smith operates ‘Currumbin Creek Adventurers’ from her home in Currumbin, on the Southern end of the Gold Coast. Tammie’s FDC is located close to the Currumbin Creek, behind Gecko House.
It’s a nature-based program for children 0 – 5 years old.
Tammie is a caring, happy and smiley person. The children and families love her calm nature. She creates an engaging and all inclusive program.
We have an intimate outdoor space which suits all weather conditions and all of our activities.
The swings in the beautiful poinciana tree out the front are a big hit with the children.
Children are regularly taken on excursions to the local parks, and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. Nature walks along the Currumbin Creek foreshore are a regular part of the week and collecting seasonal nuts, seeds, sticks and leaves in the red cart is one of our favourite activities.
Pets in Family Day Care
Our miniature poodle (Wilbur) and Ragdoll cat (Humphrey) are very child friendly and a big part of our program. The children love interacting with and caring for our pets.
A ‘Big Sister’
My ten year old daughter, when home loves playing with the children and quite often has a gathering of children sitting with her in the corner listening to stories. She loves being a part of the children’s day.
At Currumbin Creek Adventurers Family Daycare we run with a Steiner and Montessori inspired approach. I speak Japanese fluently and incorporate Japanese into our daily cycle through song and spoken words.
I thoroughly document the children’s individual development as well as their learning adventures in my Daily Photographic Book and Curriculum Planner. Parents can view these curriculum documents at any time.
Big hearted holistic care
I love that in a family daycare setting I am able to nurture every child in a holistic and of course respectful way, while inspiring and encouraging a love of learning.
I believe in offering activities based on individual children’s interest, and set my program to engage all children to achieve various learning outcomes, while still giving them the time to just be.
I feel that as an educator, I am here to guide and support each child on this journey.
I am privileged to spend my days with children and be able to watch them discover and learn.
I love what I do!
I am currently studying and working towards a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. Prior to FDC I have worked mostly in the tourism and hospitality industry. I have also worked as a disability support worker for both adults and children.
When I felt the need to have a more rewarding career, I decided to open my family daycare. I am so glad I made that decision. I absolutely love what I do. The most rewarding part for me is building a bond and meaningful connection with each child.
