Marigold Cottage is nestled in the foot hills of Tamborine Village, in the Scenic Rim.
A beautiful acreage property teaming with wildlife and room aplenty for the children to run and play.
Miss Joanna is the guardian of this space, along with her children, and various pets.
Joanna is a kind-hearted and softly spoken woman who exudes calm at all times. Children settle with ease in her calm presence, making the transition form home to day care a smooth one. Joanna is a passionate horse owner, and this informs a big part of her program, with animal husbandry a wonderful addition to her day to day practices.
Joanna also has a thirst for knowledge, and is continually reading and putting into practice theories that resonate with her. Her biggest inspirations are the work of Rudolph Steiner and Maria Montessori. She has blended these two approaches beautifully.
Children’s Play Room
Colourful and inviting, the stylish and aesthetically pleasing designated play space in Joanna’s house gives children lots of opportunity to play creatively with loose parts play. Joanna has a designated home corner with doll play. There’s dress ups, block and building play, car play, puzzles and games, and lots of props to recreate stories and for puppet shows. She has a book nook too.
Joanna’s outdoor space includes a sandpit, bikes and trikes to ride, an undercover verandah to ensure children spend some time outside every day. Joanna and the children also take regular walks around the property, visiting and feeding the various horses. Samson is the little shetland pony, hand picked for his kind and gentle nature. Joanna imparts her wisdom to the children, teaching them how to care for and approach Samson with respect. The children learn how to be quiet, how to be patient, how to take turns, how to read his body language, and treat him with kindness. All skills that are transferable to all other aspect of their lives for years to come.
Daily and Weekly Rhythms, and Mealtimes
As a team member of our Rainbow Bridge Family Day Care, Joanna takes inspiration from Steiner and Montessori early childhood education and aims to provide a BIG HEARTED program full of love and care for her charges. Her program and curriculum is held by a daily and weekly rhythm within a seasonal term. Joanna’s weekly rhythm includes cooking experiences, painting and artistic experiences, craft, and gardening. Her daily curriculum includes songs and oral stories, lively games, and circle times where children develop their fine and gross motor capabilities.
Joanna tells stories using simple handmade props. Children LOVE to listen to these stories and then ‘play out’ the stories during their own play time, and use loose parts to expand their language capabilities too. Children rest (or sleep) for a short period daily.
